The city of Seattle is in the process of a sewer rehabilitation project. Many homes in the South Park community experience sewage backups during periods of extended or heavy rain, and flooding is often seen near homes and businesses. These backups and flooding problems are due, in large part, to limited capacity to convey sewage and storm water during relatively large storm events. The 14th and Concord Sewer Improvement Project will install a new pipe to increase capacity to convey storm water and sewage. The pipe will run under 14th Avenue South, between South Concord and South Donovan streets, and west under South Donovan Street to 12th Avenue South. Added conveyance capacity with the addition of the new pipe will relieve chronic sewage backups in homes and businesses and reduce generalized flooding in the area of 14th Avenue South and South Concord Street. During the construction, residents can expect to have adequate access to area businesses and residences near construction and zones will be maintained. 14th Avenue South and South Donovan Street will remain open, though some lanes and travel detours may be necessary. There may be some driveway restrictions as well. Routes for pedestrians and vehicles will be identified and clearly marked.
